Rise Bryggeri
Our beers

We have 3 "core" types of beers in our stable. A pilsner type called Grolle Pilsner, a Marstal IPA and a Dark Ale. While we are widening our assortment, we also brew seasonal beers for Easter, Christmas and Summer.

Grolle Pilsner
The Grolle Pislner is a traditional beer brewed of water, hops and lager yeast. The result is a golden, fresh and filling pilsner with a lovely bitter aftertaste. A real thirst quencher. The name Grolle means sparrow in the local dialect, and in the old days the aeroese used to call them selves for "groller", because with their coaster ships (also known as groller) they sailed the seven seas. The sparrow (grolle) can also be found in our logo. At the same time, it is our trubute to Josef Grolle, the young Bavarian brewmaster who travelled to Pils in Bohemia and was the first in 1842 to perfect the brewing technique for the beer later to become known as pilsner.

Marstal's IPA
Our India Pale Ale is traditionally brewed out of water, pale Ale barley malt, dry roasted wheat, hops and brewer's yeast. The result is a strong, aromatic, extra-hopped and beautiful golden beer. The IPA is a classic sailor's beer, with an extra addition of the natural conserving element of hops so that the beer could keep though the long sea journey around the Cape all the way to India, when it was a British colony. The joke is of course that the beer was so good that it never made it off the island, and stayed to become a typical English pub beer.

Ærøskøbing's Dark Ale
A beer after the traditional recipy of our brewmaster, this beer is a real adventure for the taste buds. It looks good and tastes great. The deep mahogany-red colour is derived from a mixture of Pale Ale barley malt, caramel malt, black malt and toasted wheat. The hops used are the English First Gold and the American Cascade. The taste is complex, first malty with a tinge of liquorice, followed by a fantastic aromatic and fruity and bitter aftertaste. Especially imported English brewer's yeast and local ground water is used for this unique brew.
